HAVERHILL — Essex County Habitat for Humanity is inviting income-qualified families to apply to purchase a newly built, three-bedroom home on Curtis Street in Haverhill for $245,000.
Applications are being accepted through Dec 10, on a first-come, first-served basis. The first applicant to meet all qualifications will be offered the opportunity to purchase the home.
To apply, families must have a total household income between 40% and 60% of the area median income (AMI), depending on household size, as well as a credit score of at least 640.
“We want eligible families to know that this opportunity is available to them,” said Carol Susi, Homeowner Services Coordinator at Essex County Habitat for Humanity. “This is a wonderful opportunity for a family to become a homeowner at a price that may be more attainable than buying on the traditional market, and we encourage eligible families to apply.”
The home features an open living, dining and kitchen area, two full bathrooms, basement storage, and a front porch. A one-car garage and additional driveway parking provide convenient off-street parking. The home is just up the hill from the Haverhill commuter rail station, within easy reach of downtown restaurants and shops, and one block from a park.
The Habitat for Humanity Homeownership program offers first-time homebuyers who are unable to afford a traditional mortgage the opportunity to partner with the organization to purchase an affordable home while completing the program’s sweat-equity requirement.
Because the Curtis Street home is already complete, the selected homebuyer can fulfill this requirement by helping build another family’s home and/or volunteering at Habitat’s ReStore in Lawrence.
