Gifts of Stock
A gift of stock is a great way to make a meaningful gift to help low-income families achieve their dream of homeownership.
Please see the stock transfer instructions link below that will provide you with all the information needed, including the DTC and account number as well as Essex County Habitat’s tax ID number.
Value of Your Gift of Stock
The value of a gift of stock (for the donor’s income tax purposes) is based on the average value on the day the securities are received in the organization’s gifted securities brokerage account. This is calculated by averaging the high and low stock prices on the date of the gift.
Note: We ask that you notify Essex County Habitat when you have completed the request to your broker by sending us an email copy of your delivery instructions so that we can ensure the gift will be properly credited. Email to development@essesxcountyhabitat.org

Donor-Advised Funds
Donor-Advised Funds (DAF) are centralized vehicles for charitable giving that make it easier for donors to dedicate funds to support non-profits.
DAFs allow donors to give cash, stock, and other assets where the donor receives an immediate tax deduction when the contribution is made, but can grant specified amounts to the charities of their choice at a later time.
If you have a Donor Advised Fund, you can recommend a gift to Essex County Habitat by contacting your fund administrator.
If your DAF is managed by Fidelity, Charles Schwab, or BNY Mellon you can use the DAF Direct link below to recommend a grant.
Planned Giving
If you have ever wondered how you can continue supporting affordable housing and Essex County Habitat well into the future, a legacy gift is an answer.
By making a planned or legacy gift to Essex County Habitat, you will become a member of the Building Dreams Society and have the satisfaction of knowing that you have made a lasting contribution to our mission of bringing people together to build affordable homes, strengthen families, and communities, and foster hope.
Planned gifts can be done in several ways, but the most common is a bequest where you name Essex County Habitat for Humanity as a beneficiary in a will. Other forms include donations of real estate, retirement plans, and life insurance policies.
Because financial situations vary from person to person, no single approach to planned giving is applicable across the board. Estate planning requires careful discussions with your financial planner, accountant, attorney, or other qualified professional. We strongly encourage our donors to never try to create a planned giving strategy without professional advice.
