Individual Volunteering

Volunteers are the foundation of our organization.

It is through the generous donation of your time and talent that we are able to build safe, decent, and affordable homes for hard-working, qualified families throughout Essex County. There are many opportunities for you to give back. Once you find one that interests you, please fill out the Individual Volunteer Inquiry Form at the bottom of the page to let our Volunteer Coordinator know you’d like to help.

Age requirements
The minimum age to volunteer is 16.
Volunteers between the ages of 16 and 17 are required to bring a chaperone (21+) to volunteer at a build site and they may be limited to what work they can complete and what sites are available. Please scroll to the bottom of this page for options for youth volunteering.
For availability and the chaperone policy for non-build site opportunities, including at the ReStore, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator.

Build Site Volunteers

No experience – no problem! If you want to acquire new skills or put existing building skills to work, we welcome you at our build sites. Experience the joy of seeing a new family move into their home as a result of your contributions.

Shifts are from 8:30am to 4:00pm, Tuesdays through Saturdays.

Volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by a chaperone (21 years +)

ReStore Volunteers

Help keep the ReStore running smoothly – from sales floor merchandising to customer service, volunteers help do it all.  Proceeds from sales at the ReStore directly contribute to building affordable housing!

Shifts are at least 2 hours between 10:00am and 5:00pm, Tuesdays through Saturdays.

Volunteers under 18 should check with our volunteer coordinator for chaperone policy.

Skilled Trades Volunteers

Whether you’re a plumber, electrician, HVAC technician, carpenter, painter or in another construction trade, you can donate your time and skills to help build a home for a local family even more affordably.

Professional Services Volunteers

Every home we build requires lawyers, architects, engineers and other professional services. Please consider providing your services pro-bono to help a family improve their future.

Event Volunteers

We host many events throughout the year. You can be part of a planning committee, help out during the event, or even solicit raffle items.

Ambassador Volunteers

An ambassador represent and promotes the mission, values and initiatives of Habitat. You can help us reach new supporters by connecting us to your community – at community events or even by hosting an informational meet and greet.

Social Media Volunteer

Help grow our social media presence by strategically planning, writing, creating visuals and posting content for the Habitat ReStore in Lawrence.

 Photography/Videography Volunteers

Help document what we do by visiting build sites and attending events to take enticing and moving photos or videos. Or for non-professionals: take pics of new product at the Habitat ReStore and post in our online inventory.

Administrative Project Volunteers

Occasionally we have random projects such as hanging flyers around town, shredding documents, or other administrative needs.

Share Your Skills

Are you a Mr/Ms Fix It – host a demonstration. Are you an upcycler – teach others what it’s all about.  Are you artistic – paint the ReStore windows with seasonal art. If you have an appropriate skill you’ll like to share, we’d love to hear from you!
