Group Volunteering

Volunteers are the foundation of our organization.

There are several ways groups can volunteer with Essex County Habitat to help achieve the mission of building affordable homes, strengthening families and communities, and fostering hope.

Age Requirements:
The minimum age to volunteer is 16.
Volunteers between the ages of 16 and 17 are required to bring a chaperone (21+) to volunteer at a build site and they may be limited to what work they can complete and what sites are available.
For availability and the chaperone policy for non-build site opportunities, including at the ReStore, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator.

Schools and Faith Groups are integral to our volunteer family.

Build Site Volunteering

Typically we schedule school groups and our faith community at our build sites on Saturdays.  Locations vary depending on construction schedules but a typical workday is from 8:30am to 4:00pm

ReStore Volunteering

In the ReStore, groups help with various projects in the store.  Shifts are at least 2 hours long, between 10:00am and 5:00pm, Tuesdays through Saturdays.

Corporate and Other Groups  are also welcome at Habitat!

Corporate Team Building Groups

Corporate Team Building groups are a great way for businesses to have their staff get involved and support local affordable housing while working together in a different capacity outside the office.

Community Groups

There are many ways for community groups to get involved:  hold a fundraiser to benefit Habitat, make lunches for volunteers at the build site, organize a donation drive for the ReStore. We even hold special Women Build days for groups of women.  Got ideas of your own? We’d love to hear them!

Our Volunteer Coordinator will be in touch within a few days after you submit your inquiry.
