The first family that qualifies by early next month can purchase an affordable, brand new three-bedroom home in Haverhill.
Essex County Habitat for Humanity extended the application deadline for a “well-qualified family” to purchase the three-bedroom, two-bathroom home with garage at 41 Curtis St. As WHAV reported early last year, the approximately 1,200-square-foot unit ispart of a duplex and will be sold for $245,000 or less.
“This is a rare opportunity for someone who may have missed out before,” said Carol Susi, of Essex County Habitat for Humanity Homeowner Services. “A town employee or teacher could be a great fit for this home. These units provide homeownership for less than what many people are paying in rent today.”
Unlike typical Habitat home opportunities, because of the withdrawal of a previously selected applicant, applications for this home will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis and no lottery will be held. The first fully qualified applicant who meets financial eligibility requirements will be accepted, pending a family interview.
“The staggering cost of housing in Massachusetts is pushing families out of our region,” Susi added. “If you earn $68,560 or more as a family of three or four, you may qualify to purchase this three-bedroom home at a price that truly makes homeownership attainable.”
Once selected, the future homeowner will enter Habitat for Humanity’s Affordable Homeownership Program, working alongside volunteers to help build their home before purchasing it with an affordable 30-year mortgage.
“Our goal is to partner with people as they build a stable foundation for themselves and their families” said Kevin Hudson, director of charitable giving for Essex County Habitat for Humanity. “Having an affordable place to live allows people to focus on their futures and their communities.”
