Progress Report: Hamilton |
A lot of work has been done to make this woodsy land into this construction site. It all began in the fall when volunteers worked to clear the brush and demolish the abandoned house that was on the property. Mayer Tree did a wonderful job removing so many trees and Miller Golf Construction has leveled the land and installed drainage. Now that foundations have been poured and footings are in, the work on the homes themselves can begin! We look forward to hosting many volunteers and groups here during Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the project. And our families are looking forward to seeing their future homes come to life. |

Last chance to help this year. |
As our fiscal year comes to a close, we ask you to take this last opportunity to support families like Lauren's who have never had a forever home. Currently she and her two daughters live with her brother and sister-in-law's 2 bedroom home, the three of them sharing a bunk bed. Lauren has been working two jobs for 14 years now to support her family and will do whatever it takes to give her family a safe, stable, secure environment, filled with love, laughter and happiness. |

The gap between racial equity in homeownership is widening. |
| Systemic barriers have resulted in significant disparities in homeownership for Black Americans in the United States. Homeownership rates for Black families are lower today than in 1968. Black homeownership rates are significantly lower than rates for white households, at 44% and 73.7%, respectively. Household wealth is closely associated with homeownership. The median and mean wealth of Black families is less than 15% that of white families. |
According to the Habitat for Humanity International Racial Equity Report 2020, today, Black Americans: - Have 12% of the generational wealth of their white counterparts.
- Are 30% less likely to own their home. Less than 45% of Black households own their home, compared to 74% of white households.
- Have a 50% chance of living in a high-poverty neighborhood, which is proven to detrimentally affect access to education and physical and emotional health.
Through the Advancing Black Homeownership Initiative, Habitat's goal is to increase home production, spur inclusivity, grow financial support, and advance vibrant, inclusive communities. Through homeownership, more Black Americans will have the opportunity to build intergenerational wealth and improve health, education, and economic opportunity. |

Golf Fore Homes tournament makes great strides |
Thank to to all who participated in the 2023 Golf Fore Homes tournament. Through our players, sponsors, and committee members' commitment to providing local families' a more stable foundation for their future, we raised $48,000 to support the building of affordable homes right here in Essex County. Thank you for helping the people we count on every day - the hairdressers, nursing home assistants, medical technicians, receptionists, daycare providers, etc, - be able to live in the communities in which they work. |
