Habitat for Humanity Plans 7 Affordable Homes in Haverhill’s Mount Washington |
|
|
Essex County Habitat for Humanity, currently in the midst of one Haverhill homebuilding project, is moving on to another in the city’s Mount Washington neighborhood. The nonprofit recently agreed to purchase a single-family home and property at 512 Washington St. for $650,000 and has the city’s blessing to convert it into seven affordable housing units. Director of Charitable Giving Kevin Hudson made the revelation while a guest on WHAV’s “Win for Breakfast” program. “We are currently raising funds to acquire property on Washington Street where we plan to build seven new homes,” Hudson said, noting that in addition to the purchase price, Habitat must raise about $2 million to fund the renovation and construction. Hudson later explained the plan is to renovate the current house on the property, owned by Keith Boucher, to create three units and then build two duplex houses. To read full story click here. |

Women helping women at Women Build Women Build week was a huge success and we thank all of the teams and individuals for knocking it out of the park with their fundraising! The event raised over $30,000 to fund building affordable homes! Over 130 volunteers signed up to participate in raising these funds and then to swing a hammer at the construction sites to help build the 10 homes in Hamilton and the two in Haverhill. Mother nature didn't always cooperate but when it was dry enough, everyone had a wonderful time. And those that got rained out can look forward to a their rescheduled build days in June. |

Much like public institutions and for-profit companies, nonprofits are finding themselves in a state of limbo, unsure about the best way to face the uncertainties in this challenging economic environment. Many of the unknowns Essex County Habitat for Humanity is facing include rising construction costs such as lumber that comes from Canada, the future availability of donated items like imported appliances, and delays or potentially cuts to the federal grant programs we have relied on. While we continue to do our important work in the community, local support is more important than ever. We hope we can continue to count on you as we face these uncertain times. |

Donate your vehicle “I'm writing to share a little about our beloved Honda Odyssey, affectionately named Bethany, which we are donating to Habitat for Humanity. Bethany has been a cherished part of our family for over 12 years, traveling over 216,000 miles. She's been our faithful companion on trips, vacations and adventures. |

Our decision to donate Bethany to Habitat for Humanity comes from a deep place of gratitude and respect for an organization that has significantly touched our lives. My journey with Habitat began in Phoenix as a teenager when I participated in a build project sponsored by my employer. This experience profoundly impacted me, so much so that during a graduate program in Texas, I organized volunteer opportunities for my fellow interns. It was during these activities that I met my husband, Brian. He was a constant presence, always ready to help, and it was through these Saturday mornings spent building homes and futures that our own future together took shape. Habitat for Humanity holds a special place in our hearts, not only because of how it brought Brian and me together but also because of the values it instills in communities worldwide. It's fitting that as Bethany helped build memories and shape futures for our family, she will now help Habitat for Humanity continue their invaluable work. This donation is also a tribute to President Carter, whose legacy with Habitat is a beacon of hope and kindness.” - Pam and Brian Click below to start your donation to #CarsForHomes today! |
