The ReStore benefits the community, our mission, and the Earth!
We all know that when shopping at the ReStore you can save money and find some truly unique and special things. But by shopping second-hand you are also decreasing negative impacts on the environment. When demand for new goods goes down, manufacturers produce less, and therefore create less pollution and carbon emissions. Additionally manufacturing uses a lot of resources; not just the raw materials used in the product and its packaging, but resources such as water and energy. Just think about how much fuel is used to ship new products around the world - and how much dangerous emissions that creates.
Another way the ReStore helps is by keeping thousands of pounds of waste out of the landfill each year. Donating ensures an item is used to its fullest capacity instead of filling up the dump or incinerator. Through our Business Partner program, we keep even more out of the landfill. Did you know that when you return something ordered online, it can be too costly to put back into inventory? It often gets donated to us! We also work with contractors to reuse things like cabinets and appliances that still work but are removed when someone remodels.
Many of our shoppers repurpose or upcycle their finds. With a new coat of paint or some new knobs, they create a unique, one of a kind item out of a piece that may have looked dated, giving it a second life.
We thank our current customers and encourage anyone who hasn't visited, to make the green choice at the ReStore. Proceeds from the ReStore also support Habitat's mission of providing affordable housing!
