The Building Dreams Gala helps make dreams come true!
Thank you to everyone who was able to participate in the Building Dreams Gala on Thursday, September 28th. Because of you, we were able to raise $125,000 to support families in need with affordable homeownership!
The highlight of the night was hearing future homeowner Lauren's story:
"I am the sole provider for my two beautiful daughters so I've been working two jobs for the last 15 years. The last 4 years have been tough - becoming a single parent, needing to leave our apartment and move in with family, and the pandemic shutting down the world. We are living with my brother and sister in law - 3 adults, 3 kids, a dog and a cat under one roof can be difficult, but we're just grateful to have a roof over our heads.
My sister in law sent me the information about the opportunity for this home - I think she was giving me a hint! I almost didn't apply because I thought, what are my actual chances? But then I decided what do I have to loose - if I don't try I'll never know! And I was one of the lucky 7 out of the 40 people who applied to make it into the lottery!
When I was one of the numbers pulled, I just couldn't believe it! To this day it does not seem real. Even with being on the build site helping build my home along with the other lucky future homeowners. Like most people I've dreamed of owning a home for myself and even more so for my girls. I have shown them by example, that if you continue to work hard in life, good things can happen! I am proud to now be able to give the same stability to my girls that my parents gave my brother and I growing up.
I am forever grateful to now be able to provide a happy safe and stable environment for the 3 of us. There are not enough great things that I could do or say about this organization that could ever measure up to what they have given me and my girls. Because of Habitat for Humanity, the volunteers, and the sponsors, my family has been blessed with this wonderful opportunity to own our own home. It truly is a dream come true!"
