More Than a Repair: Restoring Safety at Home

For this Lawrence family, ongoing water damage had made their home—and especially their outdoor space—unsafe. Through our Critical Home Repair program, we replaced their roof, installed new gutters, and repaired rotted decks and railings.

Throughout the project, the Alfredo and his wife reminded us why this work matters so much. They stopped by daily to say thank you, brought lunch, and even offered to lend a hand. What a sweet couple.

Today, they can step outside with confidence, knowing their home is secure and their outdoor space is once again safe to enjoy.

Beverly receives grant to start Critical Home Repair Program

The City of Beverly and Essex County Habitat for Humanity have formed a partnership to bring the Critical Home Repair program to the city's low- and moderate-income residents.

After receiving a Community Development Fund grant, the city announced the partnership which will rehabilitate approximately 10-12 housing units and perform emergency repairs.

“These funds will provide better insulation, windows, and doors for hard-working Beverly residents,” Beverly Mayor Mike Cahill said. “As a result, their homes will become more energy efficient, keeping residents warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer, and saving money on their energy bills.”

This partnership brings the number of towns with funding for Critical Home Repairs through Essex County Habitat to six - including Peabody, Lawrence, Andover, North Andover, Middleton, and now Beverly.

"The Critical Home Repair program has seen incredible growth since it officially began in 2021. We have now completed almost 80 rehabs/repairs. Municipalities are realizing the importance of maintaining their current housing stock as well as enabling their residents to age safely in place in their own communities." said Meegan O'Neil, Executive Director of Essex County Habitat.

I'd like to support families in need!
