Future Hamilton Homebuyer Yaddira, a US Marine was serving as a transportation specialist in Afghanistan until 2013, when she was involved in a vehicle accident and suffered a traumatic brain and shoulder injury. We are proud to be helping this veteran and her two children realize their dreams of home ownership.
Accustomed to hard work, Yaddira is excited to get started building her home alongside volunteers.
If you're a veteran or part of a veterans' group, and would like to help Yaddira build her home, please contact Volunteer Coordinator Rose at volunteer@essexcountyhabitat.org
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Warnshuis, a longtime supporter of Habitat. Joannie was a much loved regular build-site volunteer who became the first volunteer to serve on the Board of Directors.
Fellow volunteer George Koehler put it best when he said, "Joannie was a delightful person, full of life and a subtle sense of humor. She will be missed."
Contact your local legislators in support of affordable housing
With affordable housing supply diminishing and demand increasing, we need to act now to move affordable housing to the top of our representatives' priority lists. Will you use your voice to make your representative aware of the housing issues in your area and let them know that affordable housing matters to you?
To find your State Representative, find your district on this map, then in the list here.
To find your State Senator, find your district on this map, then in the list here.
Please drop them both a line to let them know your concerns.
Thank you for your support
Many thanks to everyone who supported us on a build site or at a ReStore this past month! These Austin Prep students are just a few of those who did.
We'd also like to recognize the following businesses that offered their support:
Mayer Tree for partnering with us to clear the Hamilton site and tear down the old house at the property.
Whirlpool for their ongoing support and recent gift of appliances for Salisbury and Peabody.
Double the impact of your donation with a Matching Gift
Many employers sponsor matching gift programs and will match charitable contributions made by their employees, retirees, or employees’ spouses. To find out if your company has a matching gift program, please consult with your/your spouse’s employer to make an even larger impact on providing affordable housing to those in need.
