February 2023

The house that helped two families

When the family that originally owned this Habitat home in Ipswich was able to move into a larger home nearby, we coordinated the sale to another income-eligible family. Acting as the "monitoring agent," we ensured this home will now remain affordable in perpetuity. Who knows, perhaps it will help yet another family realize their dream of homeownership one day!

Making a stand for affordable housing locally

There are so many people in our community that don't understand the importance of affordable housing to, not only the families in need of it, but also to the community itself.

Affordable housing is known to increase tax revenue, increase local spending, and increase civic participation. It also enables essential workers to continue to live in the community in which they work.

On February 21, the Amesbury City Council will be voting on the surplus declaration and disposition of the vacant city owned property on Cynthia Lane. The proposal from the Mayor is to build four units of affordable housing there.

If you are from Amesbury or the surrounding area, we ask that you join us in support of the disposition by calling, writing or emailing the city councilors (contact info available here), rallying your neighbors, and attending the meeting on the 21st at City Hall Auditorium, 62 Friend St. (time TBD but usually 7:00pm).

Together we can bring affordable housing to four more families in need.

Wishing Heather well

Our Director of Charitable Giving, Heather Johnston,  will be leaving to pursue an opportunity with another organization. We want to take this opportunity to thank her for all of her hard work and dedication over the last 2 years. The many of you who have met her, spoken on the phone, or received correspondence from know how much she will be missed and we wish her good luck in her new role.

Stay tuned for information about her replacement.

Golf Fore Homes registration is now open

Join us for the Golf Fore Homes tournament. Not only will you have a great day of golf at this scramble format tournament, including lunch, cocktail reception and an awards ceremony, but you'll also be supporting Habitat's mission of providing safe, decent and affordable homes.
