Meet Lucy and her sons Xavier and Giovanni.
They have been living in a “two-bedroom” apartment. That’s in quotes because Lucy’s bedroom is really just a storage room that the landlord calls a bedroom. There’s no closet or window. So in the summer it gets so hot that Lucy sleeps on the couch in the living room.
But the hardest part is that its a second floor apartment. Son Xavier is severely disabled and wheelchair-bound and his brother has to carry him up and down the stairs when they leave. The apartment is not accessible and the wheelchair barely fits through the bathroom door.
In addition to being her son’s caretaker, Lucy works part-time. She strives to make the most out of life and has successfully obtained an educational certificate to improve her work prospects.
Now she is working to improve the family’s living situation and has recently been accepted as a future Habitat homeowner in a single level home.
But they need your help!
Your gift today, will enable Lucy, doing her sweat-equity, and the other volunteers on the build site to finish this home. Won’t you help today?
Every donation helps a family help themselves.
